This book was surreal in a really cute way. The descriptions of this absurd alternative world underneath a garden were simply accepted as reality. It normalized the creative mind and alternative relational structures. I love the way Erlend Loe writes and it feels very close to home. There were some interesting allusions to god and the bible, but this book didn’t knock me off my chair. Not sure what I am supposed to take away from this. “Love is real even though the person is not?”, “Some people get second chances, while others suffer eternally for a crime way less severe”. Usually these books end of in nihilistic terms, that nothing is real and that love does not exist, but maybe Loe needed to tell himself that it can actually work out in the end.
