Letters to Alice: On First Reading Jane Austen by Fay Weldon

Did not finish book.
My mother and aunt love this book, and I was prepared to love it. But in the first two pages our insufferable letter-writer insults:
1. Her niece, who is ruined by the easy access to modern television that her negligent parents let her keep in her room.
2. Kids in general of her generation, who have decided to rot their brains with television and movies rather than reading Litracha
3. Television and movies, which are shallow brain-rotting junk
4. Genre fiction, such as mysteries and romances, which cannot possibly be as good as Jane Austen

Yeah, I'm out. I like Jane Austen as much as the next person, but if you've actually ever thought about Northanger Abbey and the conversation there regarding novels and lady novelists, you'll know what Austen would think about points 1-4.
