Writers & Lovers by Lily King

At 31, Casey Peabody's life isn't going quite as planned. She's in serious debt, is struggling with her mother's recent death, is waiting tables, and lives in a converted potting shed. But she hasn't let go of her dream to become a published author. In this book, she enters into a love triangle, struggles with anxiety, deals with a childhood incident involving her father, and...a lot of other stuff.
But this book isn't a downer, and that's what I like about it. I liked seeing Casey's journey (though it took me a couple chapters before I felt that way) and I cheered her on as I turned the pages. I also really appreciate that the book was set in 1997 -- pre-cell phone and before everyone had access to email.
There were a few cliches in the book about writers, but maybe I was just especially sensitive since I'd just finished reading Sally Rooney's "Conversations With Friends."
Overall, this book was a delight.
