I think it was trying to be a more sophisticated taboo book cuz the smut was, imo, lacking. But it was also too short and rushed through to be a more literary piece. I wish there was more of a warm-up to them having romantic feelings towards each other rather than the kind of abruptness that occurred.

Just some look back thoughts for me: The mother abusing herself as punishment for the daughter not listening to her could have been expanded. If there was an actual threat from her bio dad that would have been a better excuse to hide the relationship than what we were given. The MFC did act like a child through most of the book which did make it more cringy than most taboo I've read.
