The collection that made me considers Bacigalupi to be one of my favorite writers of short fiction. It was all very emotional. Would I think the same now? I don't know. It's certainly near the top of the list of re-reading if I ever were inclined to do so. These stories may be an acquired taste and I wouldn't give out a general recommendation to read them. They're mostly dark, transgressive, and controversial. At the time I read this, it was everything that I wanted.
