I had to split the book in half because I had to return it to the library. I wish that hadn’t happened so take my review a little less seriously than most. Although, I do have a good memory of the beginning. I loved the story, the little scribe breaks were funny and not cringy. I thought all the characters were lovable- the master of poisons was definitely one of my favorites. The book didn’t feel very much like fantasy until the middle, and. Then the story was immersed into a full fantasy. I think it allowed to world building in a unique way. I enjoyed the set up for the next few books as well. Instead of a cliff hanger, it was a promise— which I liked very much. All in all it was a very solid book with a great storyline. I’m just really picky with fantasy so it only got 4 stars from me.
