North of Need by Laura Kaye
4.0
NORTH OF NEED starts off the HEARTS OF ANEMOI series and I liked the uniqueness of the mythology. It centers around the Anemoi, which are the Gods who control the weather and the winds but it's mostly focused on Owen, who is a lesser Winter God. He's been given the chance to find love with a human woman, Megan, but there's a timeline for her to fall in love or else he must return home. I really liked both Megan and Owen as characters and they make a great couple. Megan is still hurting from the loss of her husband and her struggle to move on and stop blaming herself for his death. Connecting with Owen, who finds so much enjoyment in every little thing, reminds Megan what it means to be alive. I thought Megan's grief was written really well and the way Owen accepts her past love was beautiful. Both Megan and Owen have such giving and compassionate hearts and that helps keep this story uplifting even with the heavier emotions.
