Chinatown Pretty: Fashion and Wisdom from Chinatown's Most Stylish Seniors by Valerie Luu, Andria Lo
Read with an older relative. Delightful and carefully accomplished book.
Authors often did not have an oral language in common with participants, so often communicated with hired translators, participants' family members, or through body language. They were rejected by 90% of people (not given consent to share images/story/name). People had a wide-range of things they wanted to share, and amount; all were valuable and special. Authors highlighted that one woman gave them a big smile that was really sweet; it's special and important to have researchers/authors that really care about the participants, for however short a while they have together. Recommend this book, and that we all spend more time with our elders. Really great book.
