This was freaking amazing. The best one yet.
I don't know how Jordan Castillo Price does it, but these books keep getting better and better. "GhosTV" is a masterclass in suspense and mystery and I literally could not stop reading. I was so fully immersed in the story, so unaware of what was happening outside my Kindle screen, so thoroughly addicted, that I was shocked when I reached the end. And also dismayed: that damn cliffhanger, oh my god.
Victor shines in this sixth adventure of his: I know I've said it before, but I really, really love him with my whole being. I've never met a protagonist quite like him: he's broken and snarky and unapologetically weird, messy and unhinged and complex and contradictory, and an utter disaster of a human being. And I didn't think it was possible, since he kind of reaches a turning point in the previous book, but he manages to act even more unhinged than usual. He's more confident (and an utter badass) at using his enormous powers, so there's that, he's also more vulnerable and insecure, a bit more emotionally open to thinking about all the trauma of his formative years. But in all other aspects he was even messier and disastrous than the previous books. His inner monologue cracked me so many times I literally guffawed out loud in the middle of the night; his snark is top notch, the recurring themes in his self-deprecating thoughts were hilarious and the thing I love most about him, he doesn't even try to be funny. He just is. So, yes, Jordan Castillo Price is a mastermind: her portrayal of Victor in this one was *chef's kiss* so, so, so good.
Jacob and all the other side characters (and god, I hate to admit it, but even Con Dreyfuss!) were wonderfully quirky and complex and as unhinged as Victor. The mystery was SO GOOD. Addicting and surprising and creepy and jam-packed with the paranormal and ghosts and new, weird and scary powers. There were lots and lots of twists and turns, some shocking discoveries and yes, I even appreciated that damn cliffhanger. Everything was perfectly executed and I just loved it, start to finish.
