Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw
4.0
First of all, I was intrigued by the title of this book, which I would label a novella. To that end, I would have rated it higher if there had been a bit more backstory about the characters and their relationships prior to coming together for the wedding in the creepy haunted mansion. It felt like I enjoyed an individual bag of chips, even I really wanted an entire family size bag.
The prose was lyrical and unique. Yes, there was repetition, but I saw that as purposeful and it tied the whole together nicely. The audiobook version was quite impressive. Read by Suehyla El-Attar, she brought great depth and expression to the character of Faiz.
I recommend if you like what I guess I would call horror with lyrical literary prose.
