Partials by Dan Wells

5.0

The local library recommended this book, and I put it on my "to read" list (with 500 others). A friend read it and liked it, so I moved it to the top of my list. I loved it!

I thought this was quite compelling from the get go ... tons of conflict from many different directions. Aside from just basic survival, there is still the disease(RM)to deal with (the survivors are immune, but their children are not). You have the people (women) pressured into pregnancy, you have rival factions causing unrest. And then there are the Partials, who while not actively causing problems, are still out there.

I am a BSG fan. As many others have commented, I thought there was a similarity between the Partials and Cylons. The name "Partial" caused a tiny bit of confusion (for me and for some of the characters) when they were doing blood tests and came up with a "partial" match. *Ü*

I'm just off watching "The Walking Dead" too ... so when the main character was called by her last name "Walker" that would throw me (as that's what the Zombies are called in that post-apocalyptic program).

I liked the characters. There were some interesting names (I never listen to audio versions, but that might help with the names sometimes). I was glad that the cover image DID coincide with the description of the main gal (I hate when she is described with dark hair, then the cover shows a blond). I also really enjoyed the little bits of humor (a lot with the way the characters talked with each other ... little things like Samm, the extra M).

.. although what was with all the KUDZU (climbing plant)? I'd never heard of it before, I had to look it up. It was literally all over.

More than any other book I've read recently, I find myself anxious for the story to continue. While the book did have a decent conclusion, there are still so many open ended questions and possibilities.

I actually BOUGHT this book ($2.99 Kindle), I have SO many that have come across for free that I'm really NOT buying very many. But I'm really glad I made this purchase.
