This is the second time I stepped outside from my usual tropes into the world of a Motorcycle Club for a beloved author. I don’t regret it at all.

Yes, there is violence. Yes, there are painful pasts. Yes, morality is very often gray. But it’s not gratuitous or unnecessary. Broken Chain MCs are men who needed a home and a family. All of them carry something heavy and there is something addicting about witnessing hardened men find something sweet and soft in love. EM is definitely suited to giving us characters who are complicated, and beautiful all at the same time.

Gunner grew up in a MC with a father that was vicious and heartless. He never had love or compassion. When he ran, he took something they want. He knew they would come looking someday.

When his old life comes calling and a Deaf civilian gets caught in the middle of it, Gunner is tasked with keeping Logan safe. Easier said than done when his heart also gets involved.

I loved this high stakes, tense story that found sweet moments as Gunner and Logan tried to wrestle with their feelings for one another while navigating the violence outside. And despite Logan not coming from the Club world, not knowing such violence, he knows pain and feeling like an ‘other’.

Neither are looking for perfect. Just the one that loves them with all their rough edges. That makes life a little easier, a little brighter.

“He was willing to accept that life—and everything that came with it—if it meant Gunner was his.”
