Hidden Realm by T. R. Slauf

adventurous dark mysterious tense medium-paced

2.5

This was a very intriguing concept and very similar to a book I’ve actually written myself so it was strange seeing a similar concept coming into play but explored in a completely different way.

Hidden Realm is full of dark and gritty action tense suspense in parts. It was just the kind of fantasy that I do usually enjoy reading but I will warn that it is definitely 18+ and not for younger readers due to a lot of the violence and bloody content.

I felt the story did have large gaps where it lagged and dragged along and the climax wasn’t as fantastic as I was expecting. The ideas were great and the execution pretty good but I did find the whole Grimm tales introduction a little farfetched and anticlimactic. Instead of a whole new world created from the author’s imagination, almost all the fantasy elements are drawn from the Grimm tales in some way, leaving me, as the reader, feeling cheated out of the chance to experience a whole new fantasy world.
