The Hunger of the Gods by John Gwynne

5.0

What a fantastic follow-up to book 1!! Gwynne just knows how to deliver a sequel!

I love how the world and lore was expanded upon, with more elements of Norse mythology (something I've always been fascinated by) woven into the story. The characters were given even more depth, which made me all the more invested in their storylines. The addition of new POVs was also great, I always appreciate when we get the perspective of "the other side" - especially when lines start to get blurred and it becomes harder to tell how "good" or "bad" someone really is.

Orka was once again my fave!! A fierce and determined warrior & mother, who will stop at nothing to get her son back - come hell or high water. Her love for her family is what drives her and gives her strength to carry on. Then again, Vargs chapters were some of my favorites as well, because I adore a good found family/brotherhood trope and it is done sooo very well here (gotta love the Bloodsworn!!).

In The Hunger of the Gods, Gwynne once again shines with his brilliant & vivid depiction of action scenes that are thrilling & captivating. The events unfold at a breakneck speed, yet characters still get their quiet moments to reflect & process, which provides a great balance throughout the story.

This book was such a heart-pounding and emotional rollercoaster, and after THAT ending I'm just relieved to know that book 3 is out and I can pick it up asap. Although, I am a tad bit worried about the approaching end of the saga and what it could mean for some of the characters. Well, only one way to find out ...
