Not in Love by Ali Hazelwood
4.0
This was my first Ali Hazelwood, and overall I really enjoyed this (once I looked past the blatant HR violations, that is). This is more erotic romance than rom com, per the author's note, but to that end I appreciated the portrayal of non-penetrative sex and verbal communication in this book. Well written, well communicated consent and mutual pleasure is always my #1 jam when it comes to reading romance and this has both in spades.
What unfortunately did not work for me (dropping it from 4 to 3 stars) was the constant switching between 1st and 3rd person POVs and the way, ultimately, the conflicts between the two main characters were resolved not by facing their issues together but by one person (Eli) essentially swooping in to save the day and sacrifice himself. It made the resolution so much weaker for me. I still enjoyed this and I will definitely try out other Ali Hazelwood books--I can see why she is so popular, this was a compulsive and propulsive read.
