The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst
4.0
Great read to bring in the cozy season of fall and not so scary Halloween season.
It is a light hearted book more on feel goodKiel fantasy than earth shattering, monsters or scary things.
Kiela has to flee the city when it seems an uprising against the current power is bringing death and destruction to everything it can including burning the Great Library. Her only hope is to flee to her family cottage on a nearby island, the problem is she is trying to take as many books as she can and her assistant is a plant.
Upon arrival she finds most of the town in decay from years of neglect and she has no skills that are useful. Well the books she took contains some magical spells which if used could have her convicted and put to death.
We meet many townsfolks, creatures and a neighbor who had a crush on her during their childhood days. As the unrest from the city threatens them, they band together to save the town, inject new growth in gardens and trees and learn how to move forward and prosper.
