”She’s a breath of fresh air. She’s excitement, and innocence, and a purpose all wrapped up in one. I missed her today. I couldn’t wait to get home and see her. I spent all day sitting on the back of a horse plotting out ways to kiss her again.” ~ Beau Eaton
Beau Eaton is home from the military and doesn’t know what to do with his time now that he isn’t in the special forces anymore. However, the starts up a kindred relationship with the town’s pariah, Bailey Jansen, because she is the only one who doesn’t treat him differently. In order to prove Bailey wrong Beau asks Bailey to be fake engaged.
Bailey Jansen is the town’s pariah and is working her way out of town, wanting to go to university. Along comes Beau who doesn’t seems to know how good his life is, and asks Bailey on a dare to get engaged. Bailey agrees in order to prove him wrong.
I ended up loving Bailey’s character. She was amazing, and I strive to be her in real life (and a bit like Willa). The book kept doing parallels of the different versions of themselves they show to people, and I loved it. The way Beau effortlessly learned he loved Bailey and just wanted to be with her. Bailey and the way she learned to stand up for herself against a town who had treated her like shit for her entire life. The only thing that I didn’t fully love was the reason for them getting fake engaged, but I understood it in the context of the story and why they both agreed to it.
