Glad I was able to try out Ken Liu via this short story collection from the library. I don't think his writing style works for me. I felt very distant from the characters, even when interesting interpersonal relationships are presented. I tried the first two stories and didn't like them at all but I also jumped ahead to the titular "The Paper Menagerie" which I enjoyed a lot more. But even with that story the prose was very direct with little subtlety, which just doesn't work for me. DNF'd this collection after reading these three stories.
