People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry
5.0
This is another book I put off reading because it seemed like a “beach read” but after reading Henry’s actual BEACH READ book, I knew I had to read more of her work. And I am so glad I did.
This book spans YEARS. We get to see characters grow, regress, come together, fall apart, and learn more about themselves over the course of years – and it is beautiful.
Henry has a magical way of writing characters that just FIT. Even when they don’t think they do and fight it as much as they can. Poppy and Alex, though?? They knew they fit shortly after they met. They just turned it into an incredible friendship – one that lasted for decades, which is hard to do for a college friendship. Not only that, but the feelings they had for each other was clear, even if it always remained under the guise of “best friends”.
Every summer Poppy and Alex take a trip together. For the most part, it’s just the two of them, but over the years readers see how easy and challenging this is as new people come in and out of their lives.
After everything in their friendship falling apart two years ago, for reasons the reader is a bit in the dark about, they decide to go on a trip together again. They’ve both missed each other – but in what way is what has yet to be discovered.
I loved reading this book. It warmed my heart and gave me the feel-good romance feelings I needed. I love the friends-to-lovers trope alongside a second-chance romance – and Emily Henry accomplished both beautifully.
