Just recently discovered this author and I can't stop talking about the ending for The Teacher and I actually walked or rode my bike longer to finish a chapter. The Surrogate was almost as enthralling, the ending was just odd.

Sadly this book had a lot of build up but no plot to support it. Nora's father is a serial killer of over 30 woman, she is raised by her grandmother after both parents went to jail. Since this is told in flashbacks, I needed to know the role her mother played in the crimes considering a late plot really raises a lot of questions. At first it seems with the back story that Nora is following in her father's footsteps. But in the current story she is a doctor, with a respectable life if kind of boring.

I had a suspect all figure out, but of course Mcfadden throws a wrench into what the plot was leading to and it just was so out of nowhere it didn't really support the rest of the book.

I also didn't pay attention to some of the listening and either rewinded or just didnt care.

It also Nora doing a lot of dumb female stuff,that irks me ( like not calling the police, trying to solve the new crimes herself) and Im not a fan of flashbacks.
