I am so glad I came back to this series. I am so excited to read the conclusion I never got to read during my initial read-through when I was in high school.
I’m going to copy my commentary from while reading below….
- this is new territory for me! I only read the first two books back when I read the series as a teenager. I am so excited!
- 9% “I’ll tell you what’s going on,” growls the man. “Your . . . thing . . . was trying to have its way with my daughter.” “Actually, she was trying to have her way with me,” Cam says. “And she was succeeding.”
- 10% “Apparently he’s made the right enemy, because now he has many, many friends.”
- 11% Stupid Starkey and his god awful gang of Storks! Why couldn’t they have just died in that plane crash
- 13% “He wears the cap to further hide his face and chews several sticks of gum until the sugar is blanched out. Then he spreads half of the gum wad in his upper gums above his front teeth and the other half in his lower gums. It’s just enough to change the shape of his mouth without making him look too weird.” That is a rather nifty little trick he picked up
- 16% “Because,” says Grace, “if you don’t keep this a secret, everyone in Heartsdale is gonna know you were outsmarted by dumb old Grace Skinner, and you’ll be a laughingstock till the cows come home, and they ain’t comin’ home anytime soon!”
- I really like Grace! I hope she sticks around
- 35% I absolutely love how the author has included actual news articles from real life. It’s crazy how much of this dystopian world is inspired by real fact
- 41% “There’s a theater on the next street playing a revival of Cats, which mankind will likely have to suffer through for the rest of eternity.”
- 41% I love this quote “Well, well, what do we have here?” says the tallest of the three. “Really?” says Risa, disgusted. “ ‘What do we have here?’ Is that your best line? If you’re going to attack a defenseless girl in an alley, at least try not to be cliché about it.”
- 42% LET’S GO RISA! KICK THEIR ASSES!!!
- 45% maybe Argent isn’t as stupid as he seems
- 55% oh no, Cam… that is not the way to go about winning Risa’s heart…
- 72% “MoonCrater Harvest Camp, to be exact. Craters of the Moon, Idaho.” IVE BEEN THERE! Really pretty place.
My kindle copy returned and there is a wait list… swapping to a physical book
- Pg 323 “You can let me drive,” Cam says. “There are a few excellent drivers in my internal community. I’m sure I can rally them to do the job.” 😂
- Pg 326 “…an economic engine like that protects itself. We’ll have to be smarter than they are to break it down.” And then Adam spikes. “But they made one big mistake.” “What’s that?” “They built someone who’s smarter than they are.”
- Pg 348 why would there be an agave extinction? People cultivate it. It’s not some wild thing whose numbers we could diminish- we are actively farming and producing it. And it’s a warm environment plant. So if anything, it should grow more easily with climate change. Actually apparently it is endangered. Because of climate change droughts and overgrazing. Who knew!
- Pg 365 “Now, two weeks later, Risa finds herself playing Wendy to the Lost Boys, for lately it seems the only AWOLs who are getting as far as Sonia’s are boys, attesting to the sad fact that more female AWOLs are falling prey to parts pirates and other bottom-feeders.” I love a good Peter Pan reference 😄
