The Wolves of Andover by Kathleen Kent
5.0
How much did I love Kent's first book, The Heretic's Daughter? Enough that I bought her second book, in hardcover. A thing I very rarely do!
And Wolves of Andover did not disappoint. This is a prequel to Daughter, focusing on Thomas Carrier's past and the courtship of he and Martha. Thomas fought with Cromwell and is rumored to be executioner of King Charles I. King Charles II has sent a team of spies to the colonies to bring Thomas home to be punished.
Wonderful imagery, gripping pace, and fascinating characters. I wish I knew more about this period of history, but I've always had issues keeping British history straight. Definitely some of the best historical fiction I've read in a long time.
Wonderful stuff, and I can wait to see what Kent does next--rumors are that she'll be doing something with Texas history!
