Unwholly by Neal Shusterman
5.0
I like how it has been exactly a decade since I last read this book. I love that I still love it after all this time. Neal Shusterman is such an excellent writer. All of his characters are so wonderfully written- even if I cannot stand then, like Starkey this book and Roland in the first. Excluding the people we are supposed to hate, I absolutely love everyone else and am so motivated to find out what happens to them.
With the next book I will be in uncharted territory that I did not get to last time, and I couldn’t be more excited to see what is to come.
I am going to copy my commentary from while reading below. I did a very poor job of writing down my thoughts for the first 2/3s of the book…
- Pg 276 MOLOKAI!
- Pg 347 omg I hated Starkey before but now he truly needs to die a painful awful death.
- Pg 367 “he will make Risa’s dream come true and take down Proactive Citizenry piece by blood piece.” Let’s go Cam! I don’t think you will win Risa’s heart by doing this, but who knows! Either way, good job for rebelling against this villainous group!
- Pg 383 “So she will return into the arms of her wildly emotional parents and will live the life they dream for her until she can find her own dream. She had no tithing party, but right now, she resolves that she will have herself a grand celebration someday. Perhaps a sweet sixteen. And she will find Lev, wherever in the world he is, ask him to attend, and refuse to take no for an answer. And then, finally, she will dance with him.” I love this
- Pg 384 “Would you rather die… or would you rather be unwound?… Everyone answers, and not a single one of them chooses unwinding.” 😭 omg
- Pg 392 I love the following conversation…
“The ADR has become useless. If the best they can do is send AWOLs to a holding pen for the Juvies, then something's not working. Someone needs to rethink things.”
“Why not you?" Lev suggests.
"Why not us?" Connor counters.
Lev considers it. “Well... you're a martyr and I'm a patron saint--I can't think of anyone better! So where do we start?"
