A wordless comic with beautiful illustrations. The fact that there were no dialogues and that some of the illustrations were quite detailed really forced me to pay close attention to every single panels to follow the story, and at times I had to go back and “re-read” to make sure I got what was happening. Even though at times it felt like some panels were are to read, I really appreciated that. While I enjoy comics, I don’t think I’m always very good at reading them, and don’t spend enough time taking in panel structure to really appreciate the storytelling, so that this story made me stop and do that is really nice. And beyond that, I thought the art was soooo beautiful and dynamic and organic. The mix of technology and nature really reminded me of Nausicaa. The story itself is nice and I actually found myself really curious about elements of it, particularly the relationship between the young girl and the giant warrior that protects her. A lot of the more fantastical elements aren’t explained and I can see how that would be frustrating for some—there are no real answers here—but to me it took the shape of a myth or a fairytale and I really liked that. I could see myself revisiting it.
