Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

5.0

“Because survival is insufficient.”

Wow. What a magical, magical book.
Station Eleven officially gets the prize for the First Book to Make Me Cry in 2018, so thats fun.
Station Eleven is unlike any other post-apocalyptic novel I’ve ever read. In Station Eleven, the characters we follow all make different choices in order to try and decide for themselves what it truly means to be human. Some of them try and answer that question through art and performance. Some, through religion (extremist religion, but religion nonetheless). Others, through healing, and just taking life as it comes. Emily St. John Mandel’s prose is ethereal and beautiful. The wonder that she creates with her words is indescribable. I can’t even describe the magic I felt reading this book, and I’m going to be thinking about it for a long, long time.
