uninspired. i think too many authors don't know how to wrap up thriller books satisfactorily. the insistence of so many of them (mediocre ones at least) to leave the reader with one last "twist" is annoying. it doesn't leave me curious, wondering "what if," it just makes me wish i had stopped reading the book sooner. characterisation was not really an issue but some of these "reveals" felt like it was actively working against what was actually presented in the novel. some of it was interesting but the writing wasn't interesting/innovative enough to actually play on unreliability as a theme.
i also don't enjoy the red herring in this novel, especially considering we get such a graphic rape scene out of it that felt disgusting to listen to.
