Where There's Smoke by Jodi Picoult
3.0
More like a 3.5. I was actually surprised that I enjoyed this as much as I did. Jodi Picoult is my mam's favourite author, and her taste in books is vastly different to mine so I've never bothered picking up any of her books before. Now I kind of wish I had. Where There's Smoke is a prequel to Picoult's novel Leaving Time and follows psychic Serenity Jones, who has her own daytime TV show.
I didn't like Serenity. She's clearly at the point in her career where she's too big for her boots and needs slammed back down to Earth, which she ends up getting, thankfully. It was an intriguing story, and I'd have loved for this novella to be longer so that I could learn exactly what's going on!
This novella, or at least my version of it, has an excerpt of Leaving Time at the end, which is what made me want to continue on and read it and the other prequel novella, Larger Than Life, rather than this story itself. But it was still really good! Colour me pleasantly surprised.
