I've lately been experimenting with different subgenres of fantasy and had wanted to try out some progression/LitRPG. With this series available on Audible for free, I gave it a shot. My listening experience, however, was pretty much "meh."
The magic system and the world, I enjoyed, but the characters, not so much. Lindon is a good protagonist in the sense that he has incredible agency that comes out through his proactive attitude and hard work. But the characterization doesn't go deeper than that. The side characters, even less. For the most part, I found myself coasting over the plot, losing focus at the expositions a little. But all this might just be me not adjusting to this genre as I've watched and come to enjoy many shounen anime shows like FMA, Death Note, and One Piece. As the sequel is free on Audible, I'll probably give it a shot to see if it hooks me.
