Did you know Frida Kahlo painted 143 works of art in her short 47 years of life? Although I knew who Frida was and a little bit about her art and her tumultuous relationship with Mexican artist Diego Rivera, I had no idea just how much physical and emotional pain this woman endured in her lifetime! Or that recognition of her work and celebration of Frida as an important artist came mostly after her death, especially since she was female. I think this particular title might be best for students in Grades 2-5, given the tougher thematic content and painful aspects of Frida’s life. This is certainly a wonderful biography to share with any young aspiring artist you know!
