The League of Regrettable Superheroes: Half-Baked Heroes from Comic Book History by Jon Morris

3.0

This book is exactly what it advertises itself as, a listing of a superhero character over the years that were flawed for some reason and have mostly been abandoned. And that’s the problem. It really a collection of short blog posts about individual characters bound into a book. It was enjoyable to see several comics that I personally seen before and even a few that I had collected, but that took me about five minutes of skimming. What I found more interesting was the parallels between the characters that failed and the ones that succeeded. For example, several groups also had a strong man character like The Thing from the Fantastic Four. Why was that? Is there a lineage that could be traced? I guess I was hoping for an overall narrative as to why these characters failed and others succeeded but all I got was pretty pictures and snarky text.
