The First Girl Child by Amy Harmon

5.0

4.5 stars. I liked this a lot. Hooked me from the start and kept my interest. It was just a random pick for me, as I scrolled through what was available on Kindle Unlimited w/Audio. I noticed afterward that I have read and enjoyed a couple other books by this author (The Bird and the Sword borrowed from my local library, What the Wind Knows from KU).

As indicated above, I listened to the audio edition. It was very good. I think my mind would have pronounced the name Bayr differently ("Bear" in the audio, I thought that was how it was spelled at first). Glancing at the Kindle copy, I see there is a pronunciation guide included, which is informative. Lots of unique and interesting names, with a lot of alliteration. From Dolphys we have Desdemona, Dagmar, Dirth, Dalys, Dakin, Dystel, Dred. From Berne we have Banruud, Bashti, Bjorn, Biel. From Adyr we have Alannah, Alba, Amos, Aidan ... that's just a simple small sampling ;)

I was intrigued by the story - not at all sure where it would go, or how it would turn out. Love these fantasy worlds, with these completely different societies and set-ups. I have to admire the imagination of the authors out there! Looking at the Kindle copy, I also see there is a map included. I loved that in the Evermen Saga and Shifting Tides fantasy series. A map helped me to picture things more ... unfortunately experiencing the audio I didn't see this until after!

While I love series, and continuing on with an extended storyline ... I also enjoy a "one and done" book that wraps up completely.

Parental perspective - I can't recall any language. There was some sex, and violence.
