Het jongensuur by Andreas Burnier

3.0

In the novel "Boys' hour" (1969), Andreas Burnier describes the wartime experience of a young Jewish girl in hiding in the Netherlands, and her desire to be a boy. The story has a lot of autobiographical elements, since the author experienced gender dysphoria as well in a time when society was still unfamiliar or hostile towards it. The story is well written and atmospheric, bringing to life the situation in the Netherlands during and after the war.
