A Short History of the Girl Next Door by Jared Reck
5.0
This book was an emotional roller coaster and it was not what I was expecting. I believe I got the ARC of this book at Yallwest and I picked it up because of the cover. I thought it was going to be a cute romance, but it was not. The book is about friendship and the emotional growth you have when you are in high school. Although I am not a teenage boy, I connected to the character emotionally at some levels. I found him to be funny and a great character to read.
*SPOILER*
I was surprised when the twist plot happened and I was close to tears. I was rooting for him the whole time thinking they were going to be together, then boom! She is not there. I thought his actions were justified towards his classmates because it seemed they only cared about the senior. When he went to his grandparents for a week, I enjoyed that part because of the bonding and change of pace. His grandpa showed him that people grow and people grieve in different ways.
*END OF SPOILER
I recommend this book if you are looking for a quick read and want some emotion. I am giving this book five stars.
