First of all, I did love [b:Keeper|62584703|Keeper|Nicole Dykes|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1666037222l/62584703._SX50_.jpg|98328299] and I recomend it very much! The truth is that since I read [b:Immoral|58638772|Immoral|Nicole Dykes|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1627327825l/58638772._SX50_.jpg|90838327], I'm a firm believer that I'm going to like everything [a:Nicole Dykes|13701591|Nicole Dykes|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1451592169p2/13701591.jpg] writes.
However, in some parts of this book, I had a hard time liking one of the characters, and more than once, I felt like shaking him. That's why I decided to take a few days after I finished reading it to write the review, and to get my head in order to do it justice.
That said, I can now tell that I like both characters, and that I can understand the reason for some of their actions I mean, I understand why Camden is hiding. It is not easy to be oneself in an inclusive place where everyone is accepted, so it's much harder in a place where you're sure to be rejected and probably attacked. And therefore, I understand his desire to fly freely to other places. Not to mention that much of his life is dedicated to supporting his mother and sister, working and babysitting.
As for Kingston, while I didn't like how he reacted to Camden's statement at first, and his excuses to experiment on him to regain his self-esteem, they seemed like just that, just excuses, but now I see them as something more. Sometimes even the most confident person can reel under the weight of criticism made at the wrong time or by the wrong person. It has happened to all of us, and sometimes the way to gain that self-confidence is not the most recommended. Aside from this, I think he also subconsciously used those excuses because he WANTED to be with Camden, and he just didn't know how to express it or how to handle it.
And more importantly, I think maybe I lost perspective a little bit. I mean, they're both teenagers. I mean, they're both teenagers., is that they are both teenagers. Just entering adulthood. If an adult acts like a child in difficult situations, how can you expect someone who is just beginning to walk through life to make mature decisions?
The only thing I couldn't quite put up with was Camden's mom. I mean, how many times can a person, a woman, fall for the same thing today? Especially knowing how much it cost her to raise two children? Knowing how it would affect Camden? I did want to shake her, bad. And I still want.
Anyway, so yeah, I liked this story, and I liked how it all played out. And I will continue reading everything this author publishes!
I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
