Seraph by Lily Mayne
5.0
I'm not sure I can accurately describe how much I loved Seraph and Lilac's story, but here I go! Prior to this my favorite was Moth. He was my babe, my comfort read, my sweet little cinnamon roll, I've read his book countless times and never gotten tired of it. Seraph has now taken the number one spot in my heart for monster bb's (I still love you Moth!) This is a big accomplishment and I immediately told my husband and Lily!
God, Seraph's origin story was devastating. Every time I think I can't hate this fictional government anymore Lily writes something that burns my metaphorical fire a little hotter for all my Monstrous babes. A soldier taken in the middle of the night, experimentations forced on his body without his consent (not to mention the samples taken from all the other beasties, love you all!), then renamed and discarded like trash when he failed their program. Treated like nothing more than an animal until book 4 when Gloam and Rig (bless their hearts) take him to the camp and they along with Lilac and the rest of the dream team make it their mission to help him until time runs out.
Through the bond Seraph and Lilac develop, it is revealed how sweet, caring, and surprisingly humorous Seraph actually is once he (and the B Team *B for Beastie ha!*) is able to break through the turmoil in his head. And some (heck who am I kidding, ALL) of his dialog just tugs at my heart strings! And his stutter makes him more endearing to me! Here are a few of my favorites!!!!

"He said..." Wyn cleared his throat awkwardly. "He said you make him feel like a person again, not just a thing."
*****************************************
"I w-would do anything for you Lie-lack," he told me. "Like you have done f-for me."
I flushed, lifting my shoulder in an uncomfortable shrug. "I didn't really do much."
"You d-did everything," he said.
*****************************************
"M-Moth is a half monster," he told me eagerly. "H-he is different. Like me."
*****************************************
Also, I didn't realize I could love Wyn more than when he bonded and took Moth under his wing, UNTIL he showed how protective and caring he was over Seraph. Now maybe we can call them the murder triplets! But I digress....
I don't know how Lily does it, but I hope she never stops! Every monster, character, background story, and world is so unique and amazing that it truly astounds me! She mentioned Seraph in book 1, we didn't see him again until book 4, but we know now in book 6 that she was setting up his origin story with scattered pieces throughout the entire series. She is truly an amazing author, and I absolutely love the Monstrous Series (and the Folk Series!). She started me on my journey with the M/M genre and I have barely read anything since! Thank you so much Lily for these characters you have brought to life and gifted to us! You have brought so much joy to so many of us and my husband now knows way more than he ever wanted to know but when I talked to him about Seraph and the different characters he knew EXACTLY who I was talking about so who's the true fan here?! (It's me, not him. I get that credit!)
Thank you SO MUCH for letting me be a part of your ARC team for Seraph!
