When her colleague Megan fears something terrible has happened to her aunt, pathology resident Liza Larkin offers to help and drives her to Boston. They discover the aunt dead in her condo, and while it's ruled a freak accident, Liza suspects foul play and takes it upon herself to investigate.

Liza is an intriguing, morally grey character, which adds depth to the mystery. Although I hadn't read the previous book, this worked well as a standalone, especially during Liza’s internal struggles and reliance on her father for guidance. However, the slow pacing made it hard to stay consistently engaged, and what I expected to be a gripping psychological thriller ended up being a forgettable murder mystery with unlikable characters.
