I don’t know if there was a reason to bring in new characters, unless it’s to continue the series, but this book didn’t grab me like the ones featuring the original crew. I did like the different storyline, with the factory instead of the hometown, but it wasn’t as enjoyable overall. It felt like it could almost be a spin-off series and leave the original characters out of it completely.
