I actually can't decide if I like this book or not.

I think my main issue is with the dialogue. Both characters feel robotic and lack (platonic) chemistry. I think their personalities feel underbaked and I favour character over plot generally.

The only character I did enjoy was Marx and I think that was because he was suspiciously perfect which meant I predicted pretty early on in the book that he would end in tragedy (because c'mon giving the nice guy a happy ending would be far too cliche)

I do understand why people love this book. It was an ambitious exploration on what it means to create something and I appreciate the research that went into this book but ultimately it failed to make me care about either character.
