The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving
5.0
A short story for the ages. Irving's prose never sounded more lyrical than it does here, and the build-up to the book's climax is steadily done. The climax itself is spine-tingling, as the reader is strung along waiting for a resolution to this tense back-and-forth between Ichabod and Mr. Headless Horseman. Of course, the resolution itself is familiar to any of you who watched the Disney version of Ichabod in your childhood - Bing Crosby was an inspired choice for narrating this sort of prose, honestly.
