I admired the deftness with which the author allowed the main couple to get together around 50%, but maintained the low level tension of ‘is this what he truly wants?’ for most of the rest of the book.
(However, on a re-read, I have to ding it a half star for the fact that the narrator's sister apparently has three names (and a nickname, but we'll give the author that one for free)--just needed another pass/set of eyes to catch that.)
