Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire

4.0

I really enjoyed listening to the first book in this series so as soon as I finished I dived straight into this one. I was excited to find that it was focused on Jack and Jills story which is something that I had wanted more of from the first book.

This book did not disappoint again. As I had enjoyed listening to the audio book of the first one I decided that it would be good to continue listening to them. Down Among the Sticks and Bones had the same effect on me as Every Heart a Doorway. I should really stop listening to them on the way to work as I don't think an excuse for being late due to the fact my audiobook was just at a good bit will impress my managers. However this is the effect this series is having on me. Once I start listening I don't want to stop. I was even happy that my exit of the motorway was closed at 10:30pm after a long late shift just so I could listen to more. Let that be a warning to you.

I am so glad that this book focused on Jack and Jill as it really added to my enjoyment of the series. I like the fact that characters from the first book that left you wanting more were present and giving you more in the sequel. Again, this is a very short book but definitely jam packed with action and I enjoyed it from start to finish.

I really love the eerie writing style that Mcguire adapts in order to create the epic atmosphere for this series. It really adds to the reading experience and it just keeps me wanting more and more. I can focus on nothing else when I am listening and have no desire to do anything else but listen to them so I can continue.

I love the diversity of Jack and Jills characters; I love that they are both female. I liked that we got to know about their background and previous family life as I thought it added to my connection with the characters. I enjoyed listening about how their parents wanted a boy and a girl and despite the fact they had two girls they made sure that one would act like a boy. I don't know what it was about this but I enjoyed linking this with the already developed plot fo the first book.

I liked creating a link with how the first book ended and then going back in time to actually work out why that happened which is what we have done in this book. It helped me to answer some of the questions that I had in Every Heart a Doorway but in a really satisfying way.

I definitely recommend that you pick this series up as so far I am already enjoying it. I can't wait to see what happens next and am anxiously waiting for a time that I am in my car so I can listen to the next book which I have downloaded and waiting for me.
