If you love the first book, you absolutely love the sequel.
I didn’t know it was possible but I felt like this book got even more graphic than the last one and also had a lot more shocking events. I had no idea where this book was gonna go but I loved every minute of it.
As if it was possible, every single character in this book got more gray. Moments that I hated and loved them just like the first book. They were even some characters that I disliked in the first book then love them in the second book. I will say that there is a character that died in the first book that I was hoping was going to come back in the second book and every moment a character was revealed I was hoping it was that person and it never was. A few people I talked to felt the same way as me so the author did a very good job at deceiving us.
There’s not much to say except I loved it just as much as the first one. I still need to take a break before diving into the third book, but I am so excited going into the third book and at the same time very sad. Knowing that this is going to come to an end.
I really hope that this author will continue to make more Asian inspired fantasies. Her writing style is unique and I love it, not to mention she really knows her history. It’s a perfect balance of fantasy but strong parallels to actual Chinese history. As well as a lot of parallels to western civilization and history.
Just as I said with the first book, also highly recommend the audiobook. If you are looking to get into adult fantasy and you love Chinese inspired fantasies or Asian inspired fantasies you will love this trilogy (and I say that when I haven’t even read the final book).
This series has very quickly and easily become one of my full-time favourite fantasies.
Trigger warning for sexual content, rape, abortion, violence, blood, and more. This book is very brutal and they were even moments I had to pause reading because it was too much for me to handle.
