The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager
3.0
I’m gonna be honest, after his last book, I wasn’t super excited about this one. (Spoiler alert: his last book was awful.) This was better than Survive the Night, but nowhere near as good as my favorite book of his (The Last Time I Lied). It’s very formulaic and what I’ve come to expect from him: unreliable female narrator that’s either an alcoholic or traumatized (in this case, it’s both), a mystery, some sidekicks, a plot twist, the end. While there WAS one plot twist that took me completely by surprise (and another that was super predictable), overall this one was just OK for me. I hope he finds his stride again and doesn’t just become a Dean Koontz.
