Even though this series is supposed to be rooted solidly in science, turns out the power source of the mystical doohickeys that caused the Medusapocalypse all those eons ago are...cut gems.

Regardless, the trek across the Amazon is pretty amazing and they establish their fort to make their stand against their bad pursuers.
