Annie Bot is about so much more than the subjugation and objectification of women, or of feminine domesticity - while these are a starting theme in many ways, Annie Bot evolves into an incredibly complex and powerful story about what it means to be human, how to have relationships, untangling others’ desires from your own, what is autonomy, and why we have a need for control. It’s hard to express just how well developed the characters and story are, even with it being a shorter book. It is startling and compelling from start to finish, a true compelling take on technology and society that never loses its emotional core.
