Great read! This was the best of ‘the woods are alive and want to kill you’ type books that have come out in the past four-ish years. It’s incredibly tense and suspenseful, it truly felt like the characters were in constant jeapordy. This book also explored innocence and forgiveness in really pointed ways, not blaming the child for the crimes of the father while grappling with the fact the child might grow up to be exactly like the father.

The book doesn’t totally explain itself, and the setting outside of the forest is quite sparse and unexplored on purpose, but I like that in doing so the book made the most of its length. Very fast paced. There isn’t full closure at the end which some readers might find frustrating but it worked fine for me.
