Secondhand Skin by Hailey Turner
4.0
I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
Ahhhhh I really really liked this! Not since A Ferry of Bones & Gold have I felt so enthralled by Turner's wild world of gods, weres, vamps and fae! Ngl I've a bit of a love-hate relationship with Turner. Because while there was tons to love about Patrick and Jono and the Soulbound series, I also did not vibe with a lot of it.
And straight up for this book i thought i was going to have a rough time with it, when like 6% in I was already mad as fk because the NY god pack were all shaming a DRAGON for having a fkin appetite. Words with smiles still hurt, my dudes! Be better.
I VERY MUCH loved Wade for who and what he was: the most endearing frat dragon to ever eat his weight in food every meal because he a growing fledgling. He gave college kid vibes and i really enjoyed his unique way of handling things in Boston, on behalf of his bougie god-tier pack! And i think because this was sort of tic-tac-toe gratuitous, super easy use of wealth, name dropping, and pack status with zero repercussions entertainment, it was probably the most lightweight of any of the Soulbound universe, and i personally had a great time with it!
Secondhand Skin definitely didn't take itself as seriously as some of the other titles that share this world, and i loved that.
A basic "go-here-go there" plot, with a bit of heat and lots of sweet! There was yummy food and a really nice tour of Boston that felt legit, i gobbled up this delightful story that very much redeemed the Soulbound universe for me! Can't wait for whatever comes next for Turner's dynamic magical world of weres, vamps and fae, and ofc the gods who empower them, because hopefully it would be just as wild and fun as this was!
