The Awakening doesn’t really mention it, though there are terms suggesting similar settings with black house servants. But several of the other stories after the first are more explicit about being set in plantations with slaves/about slaves, or about the end of the Confederacy and the other realities of race and color calculations (quarter vs half vs full, known vs unknown).
