The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet by Bernie Su, Kate Rorick

4.0

'The Lizzie Bennet Diaries' was a YouTube Series from 2011 to 2012, a modern adaptation of Pride and Prejudice set on YouTube! When I found out there were accompanying books, I didn't immediately jump to get one. This book was worth what I paid for it, which was 6 pounds including shipping, but not 25 dollars (18 pounds)!!! You truly have to be a strong LBD fan to pay that amount. I recommend checking Amazon for second-hand deals.

Back to the review, finding out more about your favourite characters through Lizzie's eyes and when the camera was off, made for an interesting read. You find out more about Lizzie falling for Darcy, her family dynamic, Charlotte's troubles and getting unanswered questions answered. The family theme is stronger in the book than in the videos which made me entirely rethink my opinion on the Lizzie vs. Lydia arc, you find out more about these girls opinion and why they did what they did. It all helps to make the LBD universe bigger.

However, I strongly recommend reading with the videos. The videos are all on YouTube so easy access and while I watched the videos whenever I fancied, there were parts in the book that felt missing because they were in the videos, much like the other way round. I wished Su and Rorick had written in when each video had been uploaded, it would save me having to do it myself because reading and watching them side by side better the experience.
