The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose
2.0
Ugh where to begin? I wanted to like this… especially after seeing countless videos about it on TikTok. Unfortunately I just found it very meh.
This story had potential but just wasn’t written well. I just read that this is being made into a movie and if there’s a good enough script/budget/production, I think it’ll probably be better than the book (which is a rare thought for me).
I felt like the author was forcing me to feel a certain way about certain people but at the end of the day, none of the characters were redeemable to me.
The writing felt very amateur, somehow everything was over and under descriptive and the characters emotions were all over the place… most of the time going from 0 to 60 in ways that never made sense. It felt like I was reading something written by a college student or a young writer.
There were a lot of stereotypes and attempts at red herrings but when the end came around I wasn’t remotely surprised. I quite literally rolled my eyes.
There were also some plot holes… like how was Adam not covered in blood if he was sleeping right next to Kelly when she was murdered? He literally touches her and kisses her before driving home… surely at the very least when he gets in the car and the lights come on he’d see that?
Did Adam not have the opportunity in his decade in prison to appeal? Why didn’t he get a second opinion from another lawyer? He seemingly just accepts his fate.
Rebecca just waltzes in after saying she’s a reporter and Adam immediately takes to her and hatches a plan to work together? He doesn’t ask a single question about her but immediately trusts her? Very bizarre to me.
Anyway, maybe this book would appeal to younger readers?
